We took some winter trips

Jeanne had never been to the Biltmore Estate while the Christmas lights were still up, so we made the trip and she was wowed.

.

Lavish Christmas decorations like these in the Main Dining room adorned each space throughout the mansion.

Then we stayed in the old stone building in the Grove Park Inn. The winners of the gingerbread house competition were on display along with many beautiful themed Christmas trees. This place was also amazing.

For Valentine’s weekend, we slipped up to The Greenbrier Resort in John’s home state of West Virginia. John had previously been there but not Jeanne. We toured the Bunker, which was on Jeanne’s bucket list, and we did the mineral spa soak and tried to do everything that we could squeeze into a short weekend. We made some great memories there and hope to return.

Those were some fun trips, but now we are back to work. We are following Governor Cooper’s executive orders and trying to stay covid-19 free. We hope that you all stay healthy and safe, and we look forward to when we can all be together again.

RAL NAT CON 2019

For the second year in October, John and Jeanne attended the Residential Assisted Living National Convention in Arizona with Gene Guarino. The Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix was the location with nice amenities that enhanced the trip. RALNATCON presented several keynote speakers  including Mr. Robert Kiyosaki.

Mr. Kiyosaki gave his insights on the residential assisted living business, and his wife owns a RAL facility in Arizona.

Again this year we met ‘The Most Interesting Man in the World,’ Jonathan Goldsmith who, at 81 years old, is still interesting.

We attended as many meetings and breakout sessions as possible, networked and believe that the time was well spent and fun too. Our Raleigh RAL Senior Home is still in the planning stages, and we look forward to more progress towards building in 2020.

While we were in Arizona, we took a side trip to Sedona for a Pink Jeep Tour of ancient ruins which was a lot of fun.

Our Favorite Cottage!

In 2018, we built this cottage four times for our own portfolio. Each one rented quickly, and we are very pleased with these new homes.  With the land and building costs, we have about $130k in each house and each one rents for $1270/mo. That makes the rent almost 1% of the cost, which is our goal.  We plan to do many more of these cottages as we find lots at the right price to make our numbers work.  So, instead of “buy and hold” rentals, these are “build and hold” rentals.
